The Department of Surgery is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of various surgical diseases in domestic animals such as cats, dogs, cattle, and horses, as well as in wild animals, exotic species, aquatic animals, fish, and reptiles. In addition, veterinary surgery includes anesthesiology and resuscitation, radiology, hoof diseases, orthopedics and traumatology, neurological disorders, eye diseases, ear, nose and throat diseases, oral and dental diseases, and soft tissue surgery.
At our faculty, which offers a five-year undergraduate program, students begin taking surgery courses in the second semester of their third year. Later, in their fourth and fifth years, they continue with various compulsory and elective courses to acquire the fundamental knowledge needed by a veterinary surgeon.
At the Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Veterinary Practice and Research Center, students have the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge they gain in theoretical courses. This allows them to gain experience in clinical examinations, radiological evaluations, anesthesiology, and surgical techniques.
Students who successfully complete the courses taught by our department graduate with the fundamental knowledge and skills required for the diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases.
