DIRECTIVE

Definition and Purpose
ARTICLE 1 –

  1. The Veterinary Intern Education-Training Program, or briefly (VEHİP) Education Directive, defines the implementation principles of an educational process applied to students enrolled in the second semester (10th Semester) of the 5th academic year of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
  2. The aim of the Veterinary Intern Education-Training Program (VEHİP) is to enable veterinary students to reinforce the knowledge they acquired during their earlier Veterinary Medicine Education, update their existing knowledge with new information, and gain the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in the field through practice.

Scope
ARTICLE 2 –
This directive covers the general provisions related to the Intern Training of students enrolled in the second semester (10th Semester) of the 5th academic year at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Basis
ARTICLE 3 –
The Veterinary Intern Education-Training Program (VEHİP) Directive is prepared based on Articles 14 and 16 of the Education-Training Regulation of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Implementation of Maturation Training
ARTICLE 4 –

  1. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) VEHİP totals 30 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits and is implemented over 15 weeks. This program includes theoretical and practical training provided by multiple departments (multidisciplinary) but is evaluated as a single course in the grading system.
  2. (Added: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) Students must have completed a total of 270 ECTS by the end of the 9th semester (inclusive) and must have passed all courses in these semesters and completed their compulsory internships to be eligible for Maturation Training.
  3. (Added: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) VEHİP may also be offered in the Fall Semester for students meeting the prerequisites.
  4. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) Intern Training is provided in three different elective fields (Small Animal Medicine, Food Hygiene and Technology, Farm Animal Medicine, and Breeding). Students will choose one of these fields at the beginning of the semester. Preferences will be collected, and students will be placed according to their first, second, and third choices. If there is no issue with the quota, students will be placed in their first preference.
  5. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) Otherwise, students will be placed in their second or third preference. A maximum of 60% of students will be placed in the most preferred field, and groups will be formed accordingly. Placement will consider students' transcript averages in their chosen fields. In cases where some students must remain outside their preference, the Intern Commission will prioritize student benefit.
  6. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) For each course (Topic) forming the content of an elective group (Field), 50% theoretical and 50% practical hours are applied.
  7. Attendance is mandatory for 70% of theoretical and 80% of practical sessions for each course (Topic) forming the content of a group or field. Absences are evaluated individually for each course. Students who fail to meet attendance requirements are considered unsuccessful.
  8. The theoretical and practical topics and the faculty members delivering them are determined by the Department Board decision.
  9. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) Students must follow the program offered by the relevant department or complete the practices in the prepared maturation record book and take written and/or oral exams at the end of the training. Department heads send exam results to the responsible field coordinators. The coordinator calculates the final grades considering the course hours and enters them into the system as a single grade.
  10. Elective field coordinators ensure the timely and planned implementation of the maturation training.
  11. (Amended: Senate Decision dated 29.04.2024, No. 04) Elective field coordinators are responsible for updating topic content.
  12. In cases not covered by this directive, the Education-Training Regulation of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Associate and Undergraduate Education-Training and Examination Regulation of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University are applied.

Evaluation and Success Criteria
ARTICLE 5 –

  1. Grades obtained in written and/or oral exams conducted by the departments are calculated into a single grade (Maturation Grade) by the elective group course coordinators based on the weekly course hours at the end of the semester.
  2. To pass maturation training, students must meet attendance requirements and obtain at least 50/100 in each department exam. The overall success grade must be at least 60/100.
  3. Students failing due to attendance or exams must meet the requirements or repeat the program.

Students Failing Intern Training
ARTICLE 6 –
